Justice O'Connor Announces Retirement

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has informed President Bush that she will retire from the Supreme Court as soon as her successor is confirmed by the Senate, which, if recent trends are any indication, may be a while yet. . . .

Update: If there were ever a time for Bush to make good on his rhetoric about being "a uniter, not a divider", then his announcement of a nominee to replace O'Connor sure would be it. But I'm not getting my hopes up.
